Clarington is a town in the Durham region of Ontario, Canada. Its previous name as the Town of Newcastle and only since 1994 it bears the name of Clarington. The name was changed to stop the name confusion: the whole municipality and one of its villages had the same name that caused lots of inconveniences and it was decided to rename the municipality to Clarington. The centre of the community is Bowmanville, the largest community and the seat of municipal government.
